ASI Gopal Das, accused of killing Nab Kishore Das, is a resident of Jaleshwarkhandi village in Ganjam district. He began his profession as a cop in Berhampur.

Twelve years ago, Gopal Das was promoted to the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector and sent to Jharsuguda.His current position is Director of Gandhi Chowk Chowki in Bajrangnagar. The background check of ASI Gopal Das revealed that he had some mental illness. He is likewise a patient of hypertension.  

Dr. Chandrashekhar Tripathi, Head of Department of Psychology, MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur told the media that Gopal Das is suffering from bipolar disorder. According to Tripathi, Gopal Das had come to his clinic 8-10 years ago. According to the doctor, Das used to get angry very quickly. He was undergoing treatment for this. Das's wife Jayanthi confirmed that her husband was taking medicine for his ailment. In any case, that's what she added "since he lives 400 kilometers from us, I can't determine if he used to routinely take his medications."
